When veneers are considered
Veneers are considered when you want to change how your front teeth look:
- colour that cleaning will not change
- shape of chipped, worn or irregular teeth
- proportions and small asymmetries
- alignment to a small degree, when orthodontics is not needed or not an option
Veneers change how a tooth looks, but they do not treat decay or gum disease. That is why we start with an examination: healthy gums and treated teeth come first. If the main issue is alignment, the dentist may suggest orthodontics first.
Veneer, bonding or crown
The same aesthetic result can sometimes be achieved in different ways. The dentist chooses the method based on the tooth, your bite and your expectations.
| Ceramic veneer | Bonding, composite | All-ceramic crown | |
|---|---|---|---|
| What it is | a thin ceramic shell on the front surface of the tooth | composite material applied to the tooth in the surgery | a ceramic cover for the whole tooth |
| Where it is made | in a dental laboratory | in the surgery, usually in one visit | in a dental laboratory |
| Tooth preparation | as much as needed, sometimes minimal for small corrections | usually little | reduction all around the tooth |
| When | changing colour and shape of several front teeth | small corrections, chips | heavily damaged tooth or after root canal treatment |
| Price | usually 3500 zł per tooth | 1500–2500 zł | 2700–4700 zł |

How treatment works
- 01
Consultation and aesthetic analysis
We talk about what you want to change. The dentist examines your teeth, gums and bite and assesses colour, length, edge line and proportions.
- 02
Choosing the method and design
The dentist explains whether veneers, bonding, a crown or a combination suits you. Veneer treatment is based on digital planning beforehand.
- 03
Tooth preparation and temporary veneers
Teeth are prepared only as much as a predictable result needs. A scan or impression goes to the laboratory and you receive temporary veneers.
- 04
Laboratory work
A dental technician makes the veneers to the design, working with the dentist.
- 05
Try-ins and bonding
The dentist checks fit, colour and shape at the try-ins. Veneers are bonded with a clear adhesive system.
The number of visits and the schedule will be in your treatment plan. They depend on how many teeth are treated and whether other treatment is needed first. If you have a date in mind, such as a wedding, mention it at the first consultation.
Do teeth need to be drilled
Teeth are prepared as much as a predictable result needs. When only a small change of shape and colour is needed, thin veneers with minimal preparation may be an option. Whether this is possible for you, the dentist will judge after the examination and design. It cannot be promised before the visit.
Enamel that has been removed does not grow back. Porcelain veneers are a long-term decision, so you decide on the extent of preparation after discussing the design and the alternatives.
Limitations and risks
- Tooth preparation cannot be undone. A veneer can be replaced later, but you cannot go back to the tooth as it was before treatment.
- A veneer can chip or come off, especially with clenching and biting hard things.
- After preparation teeth may be sensitive to cold for a while.
- Whitening does not change the colour of ceramic. The veneer shade is matched to the neighbouring teeth before the design.
- Veneers do not replace treatment of decay, gum disease or orthodontics for major misalignment.
Materials
- lithium disilicate (IPS e.max, Ivoclar Vivadent, Liechtenstein), used for the vast majority of our veneers
- feldspathic ceramic (Noritake, Japan)
The dentist chooses the material according to veneer thickness, tooth colour and bite. Ask at the consultation why a particular option is recommended.
Caring for veneers
- Brush and floss as usual, come for check-ups and professional cleaning.
- Do not bite hard things with your front teeth: seeds, thread, pens.
- If you clench or grind your teeth, the dentist may recommend a night guard.
How long veneers last depends on your bite, habits, hygiene and regular check-ups. If a veneer chips or comes off, keep it and call the clinic.
